Custom ERP or off-the-shelf software? How to decide
When does a custom business system pay off, and when is packaged software enough? Decision criteria from 12 years and hundreds of rollouts.
The question we hear most: “Wouldn’t ready-made software be cheaper?” Sometimes, yes. Here is how to decide quickly.
When packaged software is enough
- Your processes are standard – you invoice, stock and pay like most of your industry.
- You have few special needs and can adapt to the software.
- You don’t need to connect it to other systems (webshop, suppliers, couriers, production).
When custom (or tailored) software pays off
- Your process is your edge. A beverage wholesaler handles crates, deposits and shop transfers very differently from a building-materials yard selling the same item in m³, pallets and pieces.
- Many systems must talk. Tax authority, bank, webshop, courier, existing ERP – packaged tools rarely connect to all of them.
- Your company changes. One client switched accounting software three times over the years – nothing changed for staff, only the output to the accountants.
The third way: proven modules, tailored
We start from 15 proven modules, show you implementations that already run, and only build the differences – faster and cheaper than starting from scratch.
